Course Description:
This course integrates writing, grammar and usage, literature, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills. It presents the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, and proofing; the study of form in personal narratives, descriptions, and expository papers with emphasis on technical writing. It includes reading a variety of multicultural literature: short stories, novels, tales, poetry, mythology, drama, and nonfiction. It emphasizes oral and written response to literature, distinguishing characteristics of various genres, literary elements, and vocabulary study.

- Assessments (tests, projects) 60%
- Assignments (quizzes, class assignments) 40%

Late Work, Reassessment, & Tutoring:
- Late work will be accepted until the end of a unit. Deadlines for units will be posted on the classroom white board and Google Classroom. *After the unit deadline, any missing classwork assignment will remain a zero.
- Reassessments will be given once a "Request to Retest" form has been completed and turned in. These forms can be found in my classroom. Retests will then be scheduled with myself. *Retests must be done prior to the next test grade being given (students will be notified of the date). Students can receive up to a 90% on a retest. *Quizzes do not qualify for reassessment.
- Tutoring is available, but must be scheduled ahead of time. Please ask when needed.
