READ AND TAKE NOTES

This day is for you to work and read closely.
Created by Jennifer Lowery: Friday, October 28 3:52 PM

Due:

Frankenstein Discussion - through Chapter 11

1)  Ice is re-introduced as a motif in Chapter 10.  Discuss the effect of the mountains, ice, and glaciers as a setting on which Victor and the Monster meet again. How is this appropriate? How does it enhance the themes of the novel? (Ask yourselves, why did Shelley choose this setting for the meeting of the Creator and his Created?)

2)  Note the Monster's diction in his first conversation with Victor - what does this tell you as a reader about him as a creature?  How valid do you see his points and his arguments on pg 94-95? What about Victor's responses?

3)  Remember that Walton is listening to Frankenstein's tale.  What reaction do you think Walton has to the story at this point? Describe the settings in which Frankenstein and the creature choose to tell their stories.  Why might both narrators decide to tell their stories in such places?
