Greenbrier Guitar Class

 

Course Information

Guitar is a course designed for students to perform, respond, create, and connect to music through the guitar. Students will learn basic guitar playing skills, music theory, improvisation, songwriting, and also the growth and evolution of American Rock music. Students will learn guitar concepts in a large group setting and practice these concepts within small groups. Whether new to guitar or a student looking to grow, continued practice and focus on growth as a musician will be key to the success of a student in guitar class. 

Assessment/Grading Information: 

Students will be graded on the following grading scale for Guitar Class:

Mr. Boykin’s Biography 

Mr. H. Rutledge Boykin serves as the Assistant Band Director at Greenbrier High School and has the privilege to be the Greenbrier Guitar teacher. Mr. Boykin’s teaching experience includes working at many different schools in the CSRA across all grade levels. Along with teaching, Mr. Boykin has performed music across multiple countries. Mr. Boykin obtained his Bachelor of Music Education from Georgia Southern University. Mr. Boykin has been playing guitar for almost 20 years and believes that learning guitar is a fantastic avenue for students to experience music as well as gain a life skill they can use beyond high school.
