Bienvenue à la classe de français!

Le club de français 2019-2020
During this school year, the French Club will meet during our monthly club day during school hours. We will also occasionally meet after school, from 3:00pm to 3:30pm in Room 626. After school meetings will be announced at least a week in advance, and will be publicized in class, via Google Classroom, and in school-wide announcements. Anyone may join French Club, as long as they pay dues and express an interest in promoting French and francophone culture in our community.
If you want to be a member of French Club this year, the dues are $25. This is the cost of a t-shirt and also pays for snacks at meetings. Membership dues must be paid BY NOVEMBER 1, 2019.
Dues can be paid in person (with cash or check) or can be paid through RevTrack using this link:
Only students who have paid their dues will be on the official French Club roster and will be able to attend French Club meetings on Club Days during school hours.
I have established a Google Classroom for French Club. This seems to be the easiest way to send out updates and information and provide a forum for questions, feedback, suggestions and interaction. The code to join is 4ltw40d
Google Classroom
Please log in to your Google account using your Columbia County student email credentials, and then open the Classroom app.
Use the code that corresponds to your level to join the class:
French 1: x8grn2q
French 2: 2bjzzr
French 3: wc9fd55
French 4: o20u4ak
Parents and guardians may also join Google Classroom in order to see what is going on in their student's class, and I encourage you to do so. I will regularly post schedule updates, class materials and reminders in Google Classroom and this will be one of the main ways to know what is going on in French class this year.
I will not be using Remind this year, as I wish to protect and respect time away from school for students and families, including my own.
I encourage you to contact me at any time by calling Greenbrier High School at 706-650-6040, by message through Google Classroom, or by email at
It is my policy to reply to emails and messages as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours after I've received them. I will do my best to communicate as clearly and as openly as possible with you!
This is a great tool to review vocabulary we are learning! Make an account, get the app, and join your class and review with materials I have made and found.
Why French?
French is a global language! You can see from the maps in the attachment "Le Monde Francophone" that French is spoken by people on five continents and from a multitude of countries and cultures. While we mostly think of French being a European language, it is also African, Asian, and South American. More than 275 million people speak French as a first language, with many more than that who speak it as a second, or third (or more) language. It is estimated that by 2050, French will be the language most spoken in the world!
Check out this link for more information about why French matters from Rutgers University:
This link from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) also talks about the role of French in culture, the importance of French in the global world, and outlines some specific benefits to becoming a French speaker:
