A "Whole-Child" Initiative
 
The Wraparound Support Program (WSP) is a district-wide initiative within Columbia County School District that began in the 2018-2019 school year. The Wraparound Support Program is, above all, an initiative focused on student voice. The Wraparound Support Program facilitates partnerships between students, schools, family, and community stakeholders to enhance students’ socio-emotional well-being while assisting in their transition to post-secondary life.

The Student Support Counselor (SSC) provides one-on-one short-term counseling to students needing assistance with managing anxiety, depression, grief, transition periods in life, peer-group relationships, and general adolescent issues. The SSC also provides group counseling on topics relevant to the student population as identified by the students, and crisis response to students in immediate need. The SSC provides professional development to teachers and staff on supporting mental health needs among students in the classroom setting.

The goal of the Special Education Specialist is to contribute to the achievement of the Columbia County School District mission and major system priorities by supporting the effective organization and operations of the school environment to optimize student learning, instructional programs, funding, and related activities. Some of the duties of the Special Education Specialist are:
  • Collaborate and support school staff with implementing strategies in academic interventions and behavior management (i.e., classroom management programs, individual behavioral intervention plans, conduct a functional behavioral assessment, de-escalation strategies, organization of the environment for student success)
  • Collect and review data on growth of special education students and programs within assigned school
  • Work with school personnel to interpret and implement GADOE rules and regulations regarding students with disabilities
  • Work with building administrators in scheduling SWDs according to students’ IEPs
  • Write eligibility reports and act as the LEA representative at IEP and eligibility meeting; demonstrating the ability to appropriately recommend and utilize resources
  • Assist with parent complaints/conferences regarding SWDs at the school level
  • Assist building administrators with disciplinary issues regarding SWD’s
  • Provide training to staff on special education issues, including due process, eligibility, and specific areas of disability categories
  • Ensure due process procedures are followed at the school level
  • Assist teachers in writing legally defensible IEPs
  • Mentor new special education teachers
  • Complete observations of students in the classroom

The Military & Family Life Counselor (MFLC) provides confidential, non-medical/non-clinical counseling and support and resources to military students at our school. Mrs. Kelly works directly with students to build personal skills such as stress management, social skills, time/task management skills, and military life challenges. She also collaborates with teachers and staff to identify counseling needs specific to our school.
